In 1958, a talented Belgian comic artist, Pierre Culliford, known as Peyo, dreamt up a tribe of white capped, blue skinned imps living in a village of mushrooms and speaking a strange language, Smurf. These characters first appeared in one of the Johan and Peewit adventures, The Magic Flute. Success was such, that from 1962, Peyo worked exclusively on the creation, drawing and texting of a cartoon dedicated to these characters. He remained the only creator of the Smurfs cartoons until his death in 1992.
Since then, his family and collaborators have continued his work, with the same creativity and sense of humour. As the first adaptation for film in 2011 by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation, family comedy The Smurfs was an immediate success, rising to the top of the American box office on the day it was launched, achieving 13 million dollars in ticket sales. This film generated over 560 million dollars in ticket sales around the world, ranking third amongst the top animation films for 2011. The Smurfs 2 is directed by Raja Gosnell and produced by Jordan Kerner. The sequel continues the story of our blue friends in an all new adventure to be released in theatres on July 31, 2013. Whether seasoned enthusiasts, or young fans who have recently discovered these characters thanks to the Sony Pictures film, the game brings together an audience of all ages with a group of heroes standing three apples high, soon their adventures will continue to thrill audiences around the world.
These fans can sidestep traps set by the most notorious of enemies Gargamel and Azrael, as well as newcomers such as the Naughties, alone, or with up to four players simultaneously in Cooperative Mode. A fifth player can join the game, exclusively available, on Wii U™; by controlling the Clockwork Smurf using Wii U™ GamePad, they can help their friends, and are even able to wipe out enemies for them.
